Vote Early, Your Voice Matters A Message from Councilman Kevin Conwell

By Councilman Kevin Conwell
I’m Kevin Conwell, your Cleveland City Councilman. As we approach the next election, I want to talk about something critically important—and often overlooked: voting early, whether in person or by mail. When you vote early, you’re not just choosing convenience. You’re strengthening democracy in our community.
🗳️ Why Early Voting Matters
- Avoid the crowds. Election Day lines can be long, especially in densely populated neighborhoods. Voting early gives you flexibility—go in before things get hectic, or send in your vote by mail and know it’s done.
- Make your vote count. Life happens—work, emergencies, unexpected events. Early voting ensures your vote isn’t at the mercy of something out of your control.
- Reduce stress and error. When things are less rushed, you have more time to review your ballot and trust the process.
📊 Early Voting What We’re Seeing in Ohio & Cleveland
- In the 2024 General Election in Ohio, over 2.53 million people voted early—that includes both mail-in ballots and in-person early votes. That’s about 31.5% of all registered voters. Signal Cleveland
- In Cuyahoga County, early voting has already surpassed 2020’s totals prior to the last day of early voting. News 5 Cleveland WEWS
- However, despite good progress, Cleveland and Cuyahoga County still lag many other counties in early turnout by percentage of registered voters. Signal Cleveland+1
🔍 Your Voting Options
You have two main options to vote early:
- Vote in person early
You can go to one of the early voting locations in Cuyahoga County during the early voting period. This gives you the opportunity to cast your ballot ahead of Election Day. - Vote by mail (absentee ballot)
If you prefer mail-in voting, request your absentee ballot ahead of deadlines. Mail it back early to avoid postal delays, or deliver it to the Board of Elections if that’s permitted.
✔️ What You Should Do Now
- Check your registration status. Make sure your address is correct.
- Find out the early voting locations nearest you. The Board of Elections website has maps & lists. Default
- Request your absentee ballot now, if you plan to vote by mail.
- Make a plan: choose a day to vote early or send your ballot, and mark it on your calendar.
Cleveland, when you vote early, you send a message-
that your time matters, your opinion matters, and you expect government to respect your voice. Whether you vote in person or by mail, don’t wait. Let’s show up for our city in every way we can.
Let’s make this election one of our strongest ever. Vote early. Let’s do it together.
